Kickstarting The Weekend With Whitmore!

More Whitmore please!

Ok, so maybe this isn't skate, surf, BMX or snow related, but it is of high importance and no human being should go through the weekend without seeing it!

Sarah Whitmore is a Moto X rider for etnies Girl. From the looks of this photo from her interview in TransWorld MX last month, seems to be a pretty 'lil lady too. Like those star tattoos? So do we, but challenge her on a bike and stars are precisely what you'll end up seeing when she whoops your ass on the track.

ThirtyTwo Sweeps Orange British Snowboard Championships!

Dom Harrington

On March 11-18, 2006, a record number of competitors descended upon Laax, Switzerland for the Orange British Snowboard Championships. The UK ThirtyTwo team was there to represent, bringing home no less than four medals.

Monday was Boardercross day, and a record number of 94 riders took on the challenging course. A4's very own ThirtyTwo sales rep Dale Taylor decided to join the Masters race and took home the second fastest qualification time, joining Matt Burt of Ride snowboards and Olly Lambourne from Burton head-to-head in the Finals.

Already in the first turn, Dale took 2nd place behind Matt, which he held throughout the race. Ex-pro Matt said afterward that he did a speed check going over the second jump and found Dale right behind him almost clipping his head. With such a threat (we all know Dale is scary!), Matt had to step up his race to take the title. Well done, Dale! Even more respect is due to him, as he represented in Slopestyle, too!

Dan Wakeham

A perfect bluebird day welcomed the competitors for Tuesday's Halfpipe comp, or as it is also known, the Dan & Dom Show! Dan Wakeham was first and started off with the day's highest rotation. He then continued super smoothly into a massive frontside 900, a backside tailgrab to a frontside 720 and finished with a Haakonflip. Everyone thought that was enough for him to rob Dom Harrington of his title, but Dom would not give it up that easily.

After DJing at the ThirtyTwo party the night before, Dom launched into a faultless technical run, opening up with a frontside 720 to a Haakonflip, then pleased the crowd with the biggest straight air of the competition and finished with a backside 540. That was enough to retain his title and represent on the podium, with Dan at his side taking the silver. Angus Leith also finished 4th in the Junior category.

The fine weather continued as the action turned to the Big Air comp on Wednesday. The Men's Final was one of the best the Brits have ever seen, with a super high standard. Representing the best boots in the world was Mr. Danny Wheeler, who took home the bronze medal with his big, boned backside 900. Taking the gold was Brit newcomer Nate Kern, who performed a cab 1080…the first in Brit history! Congrats to all of our riders for ripping.

preacher

For like 20 years now, late at night flipping channels, I've seen this dude telling me to send him money and talking about God and stuff. It was always pretty boring. I guess I missed this episode though. Seriously folks, farting is never not funny.

Skateboards, etnies and smiles...

As an editor of etnies.com, I have one of the raddest jobs ever. I get to write about skateboarding and all types of other fun, silly, and ridiculous stuff for a living.

But even the most perfect job isn't without criticism. Sometimes I get it without asking! Doesn't that suck? You all know how it is, right? You're just doing your own thing, trying to have fun, be creative and make people smile or laugh and someone comes along and just rains on your parade. Blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lemonade
Make more lemonade...

But what's that saying...when life gives you lemons, make lemonade? Ya that's it! Turn the negative into something positive! Take the criticism in stride and do something constructive with it!

So in the wake of the aforementioned unsolicited criticism, I was reminded that the super awesome etnies fans from all over the globe really love hot chicks! That's in addition to skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, BMX and Moto, of course. So let's constructively put more chicks on the site!

Are you down? All in favor, shout it out with a comment!

keep skatebording fun!

Furthermore, etnies encourages you to always be yourself. Don't let those who criticize you keep you down or discourage you from doing what you want to do. What do they know anyway? Keep skating, surfing, pedaling, throttling, grinding, sliding, braaaping, pumping, pushing, carving and chasing the ladies. Have fun, stay young, question authority, laugh a lot and enjoi the ride...

Snow Team March Madness!

The crew heading out to “the secret spot...”

All right, gang, here’s a quick update on the etnies Snow team. A lot of major stuff has gone down since New Year's. As you probably already know from reading all the recent headlines, Hampus Mosesson won the X-Box Big Day Out and Markku Koski went and got himself all bronzed at the 2006 Winter Olympics! In other etnies Snow news…

Eric Jackson and John Jackson are both out on the road, trying to get some backcountry shots. Eric spent the last few weeks in the Northwest. He was planning on heading up to Terrace, BC to go on a heli trip with Standard Films, but he got delayed, so now he’s hanging in Washington and chillin' in the wet conditions. John has been out in Montana getting the goods, but he’ll soon make his way to Japan for the Slopetyle contest.

Don’t you wish you were doing this? Girls having a blast! Leanne, Lexi and Hana.

Tyler Lepore was last seen in Whistler, hitting up some secret spots and filming and shooting with Kevin Sansalone and Sandbox Films.

Back up in Canada, Benji Ritchie has been back and forth from Whistler to the interior, filming and sledding with the White Out crew. He reported that he’s been having a great season so far.

After a hectic day of getting Sean Johnson’s truck to the shop, Stian had to drop in on a new starter $450! Yikes!

Stian Solberg flew straight to Canada from Norway about a month ago to take on North America as a road warrior. He’s been on a mission, driving from Whistler to Salt Lake to Montana and then back to Lake Tahoe to shoot for Defective Films. Stian has encountered a few road nightmares, but is keeping his spirits up.

After a hectic day of getting Sean Johnson’s truck to the shop, Stian had to drop $450 on a new starter! Yikes. Good thing he had a decent day on Saturday. He stomped a handful of tricks somewhere in the backcountry of the Sierras. Stian’s plans for the next few weeks include a short trip down to etnies Snow headquarters for a quick lifestyle shoot and then back up to Whistler. Ah, the good ol’ life of a pro snowboarder on the road.

Jussi Tarvainen has been in the States for the last few weeks, filming and hitting up the backcountry around the Tahoe area. He was recently chillin' in BroCal with fellow shred buddy Shaun McKay. They got in a quick surf session down in the OC, then went up to Bear Mountain to judge the Wide Open contest. Now they’re on the road heading back to Tahoe, where they’ll be filming and sledding for the next week or so.

Road battles suck!! (Fy-faen!)

Now let's look back up at the Northwest, where Wille Yli-Luoma’s been living for the last year or so. He has also been on the road mission lately, slaughtering it back and forth from Montana, Jackson Hole and Washington. He’s been focusing on filming with the Volcom crew this year. Wille’s had a handful of the best days of his life at Mt. Baker. He’ll be hanging out in the great Northwest for now until mother nature calls.

Upcoming Events
March 1-5 Vans Cup, Northstar at Tahoe, California
March 9-12 Slopestyle contest, Japan
March 15-20 U.S. Open at Stratton, Vermont

Until next time, keep the dream alive!
