Happy Happy Hampus!

This in from etnies Euro correspondant Steffi Hager:

I just got back from the X-Box Big Day Out contest in Val D'Isere, France, where etnies Snow team rider Hampus Mosesson took first place on Thursday night! It was a three-star TTR Slopestyle contest, with a small jump on top, a big jump in the middle and a hip at the bottom of the course. Hampus won the Highest Air contest on the hip with not only one, but a couple of massive airs that none of the other riders could top, taking home a new X-Box 360 and 500 Euros for his trouble!

The Slopestyle Finals were held later in the evening, and Hampus stomped his run perfectly with a smooth Cab 900 shifty and a massive air on the corner for another 1st place. The conditions for night riding were not really too good, either! It was bitter cold, and take-offs and landings were icy. It was hard to get the right speed for the big jump, as well, and most people went way too far and landed in the flat! But Hampus managed to proceed at just the right speed and forcefully land his Cab 900 shifty to take the lead!

Third place went to the European contest legacy and Finnish etnies Snow rocker Aleksi Vanninen. He was the oldest participant, and showed the young guns and judges some serious riding skills.

Congrats Hampus! We heart you!

Markku!

Hey, there. It’s time for another update on the European etnies Snow shred dogs!

Let’s get started with Markku Koski! After doing the European Open in Laax and placing 6th in the Halfpipe contest, Markku gathered enough points for a spot in the Finnish Olympic Halfpipe team. He was really stoked about going to the Olympics for the second time, even though it was a bit of a hassle due to the airline not getting his boardbag to its actual destination. But, Markku made it to Bardonecchia, and his trip was a blast. He won the first-ever bronze medal in the history of the Finnish Olympic snowboard team and couldn’t believe that he made it on the podium. He showed a smooth yet a technical run packed with his amazing Markku Koski style.

What else is going on in the Finnish department? Well, Jussi Tarvainen went to the States after New Year’s to start filming for his video part, but unfortunately hurt his knee! He went back to Finland to get it checked out, and luckily, it was just bruised. So, Jussi packed his stuff, hopped on a plane and left to the States again, where he’s now searching for powder and good backcountry spots!

Let’s see what the Swedes are up to. Hampus Mosesson made his way down to Europe in January to start filming with the Mack Dawg guys in Austria. Since they weren’t really lucky with snow, he decided to follow some of his teammates to Laax for the European Open Contest. Unfortunately, Hampus got sick the night before the Slopestyle contest. Nevertheless, he tried to ride and placed 14th. After that, he went back home to Sweden to work on his visa for the States. At the end of January, Hampus joined Markku at the ISPO trade show in Munich to do some promo for their new Quik signature line. After that, Hampus headed back to Sweden to get some paperwork done and get ready to leave to the U.S. to film for his part in next years’ Mack Dawg movie.

Chris Sörman: kinda emo...

Chris Sörman made his way down to the Alps in January, as well. He joined his fellas at the European Open and placed 16th at the Slopestyle contest. Chris did way better during the Laax Vegas gambling night, when he won the roulette jackpot of the evening. After ISPO, Chris headed back to Sweden and drove his car down to Austria to start filming with the European Pirate crew. He will have a part in their next movie, and it’s definitely gonna be a banger, so keep your eyes open!

Let’s cross over to Norway and see what those guys are up to! Fredrik Austbo was recently busy gathering points in all the FIS contests to get a spot on the Olympic team. All the hard work paid off, as Freddy made it and got to represent Norway in the Halfpipe competition of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino, Italy. At only 17, he was one of the youngest riders, and he did a great job!

Thomas Harstad was busy doing a lot of the TTR contests in Europe. He went to the O’Neill Pro Freestyle in Avoriaz, where he placed 6th, and after that, he went straight to Leysin for the Nescafé Champs. Thomas is now busy gathering footage for his part in the new Storbis movie. He rented a place together with the rest of the crew in the Arlberg area, and will stay there for a couple of weeks to get as much filming done as possible!

Our charming power lady from Spain, Cuca Aranda, is busy filming and shooting in her home country. She is also planning a trip to Australia, where she wants to go ride this Summer and work on her English skills!

We'd like to congratulate etnies Snow team rider Markku Koski of Team Finland, who earned a 41.5 score and the bronze medal in the Men’s Halfpipe Finals at the 2006 Winter Olympics! On Sunday afternoon, Bardonecchia, Italy was sunny, the halfpipe was perfect and the level of riding was incredible.

Markku’s first run in the Finals consisted of a perfectly styled air to fakie, a smooth Cab 1080 to frontside 900, a backside 540 to a fronstide 700, and a clean Cab 900. That run earned him a 41.5 score and the bronze, which fulfilled his dream of obtaining the first Olympic medal of his snowboarding career.

etnies Snow X Games Team Dinner!

An etnies Snow X Games team dinner full of ta-kill-ya ski shooters and rowdy snowboarders equals...madness! The victims included Alexis Waite with her dad and brother, Leanne Pelosi, John Jackson, Joanna from MGT Snowboard Camp, photographer Tim Zimmerman, Dragon Team Manager Mike Tobia, Pat Milberry, Jeff Keenan, ThirtyTwo Team Manager Eddie Lee and Teams Assistant Michele Kimbrough. After the ski shooters, everyone somehow made it to the Red Bull VIP party, where the rest was (blurry) history.
