International Snow Team Report 08-16-05

Posted by: Garry | Tuesday, August 16, 2005

Well, yes, in fact, Summer in Europe seems to be over already. The middle part of the continent didn’t even really get any warm weather, but the Scandinavians, on the other hand, seemed to have a great Summer.

Let’s start up with Jussi Tarvainen. He spent his Summer in good old Finland, where he went surfing and skateboarding and worked on several art projects. This guy is always busy doing something. You would almost think that he doesn’t have any free time. Jussi spent the last couple of weeks trying to get a visa to visit the States. He’s planning to spend more time there next season to shoot and film and enjoy the good parks and backcountry.

Hampus Mosesson spent his Summer in Sweden, partying, golfing and hanging out with his buddies. By the way, he also entered his first golf comp and did pretty good. (Not only because of the great etnies golf shoes!) Beginning of next month, Hampus will join Markku Koski, Freddy Austbo and other fellow Quik shredders on a trip to Australia and New Zealand, where they will attend the Oakley Style Wars contest, and shoot and film as much as possible.

Bali: That’s where Thomas Harstad spent his Summer. And I’m sure he definitely got a real Summer feeling over there, as surfing, chilling on the beach and working on his tan were his major activities. Right now, Thomas is getting ready to attend the Storbis video premiere in Helsinki, Finland on August 26, where he will enjoy a hell of a party with all his fellow Storbis friends. The first Storbis premiere will be held at Badeanstalt, Leopoldstr. 250 in Munich, Germany on August 20! Don’t miss it!

Swedish up-and-blasting young shredder Chris Sörman enjoyed his Summer at full throttle! First of all, he went on a trip to Folgefonna and Stryn. Folgefonna was okay. The jumps were small, but he got a couple of good shots anyway. Stryn awaited Chris with sunshine and warm weather, a pretty big jump, a good corner and other fun stuff. After all that hard work, Chris pulled off a heavy pool party at his parents’ house, went skateboarding and hung out with his friends. Right now, Chris is enjoying the sun and warm weather in Alanya.

Our European lady shredder Cuca Aranda is on her way to Argentina with a couple of photographers. She’s finally back on her board, and ready to start the season. She planned this trip quite a while ago, and now she’s really excited to actually go to South America. Cuca spent most of her Summer in Spain, cruising from beach to beach, always searching for the best waves.

French rider Remi Lamazouere just got a spot in the Nidecker pro team. Congratulations, Remi!

The rest of the gang is still enjoying Summer, but they will be back with some snow news pretty soon, as the first fresh flakes have already fallen on the peaks of our mountains! Aight!

etnies are the shoe of choice for the homeless on the streets of Compton. See how well that Lo Cut 2 matches the Docksider he's wearing on the other foot? And the no laces thing...that's gonna hit big in '06. You heard it here first.

Team Report 08-05-05

Posted by: Garry | Friday, August 5, 2005

John Jackson and Eric Jackson recently finished editing their parts for Standard Films' Paradox. From the sound of it, they seem pretty stoked on their parts. They're hanging in Mammoth, fishing, golfing and trying to soak up as much of the Summer as they can. They both plan on heading down to South America later this Summer or early Fall. Be sure to check out the Paradox premiere during the ASR trade show down in San Diego in early September. Dates to be announced.

Markku Koski is wrapping up his vacation with his girlfriend in Vancouver, Canada this week. He's heading back to Finland, where he'll be based until mid-September, and then it's off to South America with Quicksilver for a photo shoot. Be sure to check out Markku in Paradox, as well.

Tyler Lepore ventured out to France with the Capita team last week. They're off on a short European tour, visiting shops, distributors and friends for a couple of weeks. Tyler was fully multi-tasking just before the trip, getting ready for the ThirtyTwo Press Launch / Art Show in New York City on August 17. He headed home later this week to gather some last-minute art pieces just in time for the Big Apple.

Janna Meyen is on her way to New Zealand for the next month. She'll be down unda shredding and filming for the Volcom video.

Leanne Pelosi has been one heck of a busy bee. She recently wrapped up her sessions at MGT Snowboard Camp with some of her good friends, finished editing her part in the Misschief video, bought a new car and purchased a new condo in Vancouver. What's next, Leanne? Congratulations! We can't wait for the housewarming!

Benji Ritchie spent the last couple of weeks shredding at some of Europe's finest Summer camps. He's heading back home for a bit before he goes down to New York for the ThirtyTwo Press Launch / Art Show. Be sure to check out Benji's video part in Whiteout's upcoming movie, The Big Blind.

Alexis Waite recently purchased a new apartment in Portland, Oregon. She said it made more sense to be based in Portland due to her hectic traveling schedule throughout the Winter. Lexi also recently finished editing her part in the Misschief video. She will be slowly but surely be getting settled into her new pad. Congratulations, Lexi!

Wille Yli-Luoma has been juggling a handful of projects within the last couple of weeks, and is anticipating a full schedule for the next month. He's been busy trying to develop and collect about 30 of his photographs for a show, as well as attend his signature week at High Cascades Snowboard Camp in Mt. Hood with 200 kids.

Wille will be hanging out with all the campers and participating in some of the activities throughout the week. He'll also keep busy hosting a photography contest and editing through 2700 pictures taken by each and every one of the campers attending his session. He'll pick one lucky winner and outfit the kid with a full gear set-up of his own.

Immediately after that, Wille will jump on a plane and head down to New Zealand for a week of shredding with the Volcom crew. Then it's right back to New York for the ThirtyTwo Press Launch / Art Show, where Wille will be showcasing some of his fine photographs.
