Maybe it will wake some of you up so you don't waste your life handing over your money to Van's, Tony Brummel, and "the great white belt makers of america". I remember a time when punk rock was just stupid aggressive music designed to let kids hang loose. We never acted like our music was intelligent (because it's not). Whenever we saw a 'skinhead', or a 'gutterpunk' or whatever, we'd laugh at them...do you know why kids? Because they are conformists. Which definetely makes them hypocrites. At the time, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. were just as "punk" as say the misfits or minor threat, or whatever. Then came the wave of Epitaph, Victory, etc. It all went down to the shitter. They know that the youth is rather obsessed with fitting in, they know that the youth isn't totally aware of life and the world around them, they know the youth will spend lots of money on garbage fucking CD's and merchandise, and that's all they really are about.
We made fun of 'emo' kids too. I didn't understand how 'ok'-ish often lending to god awful underground rock could have so many labels.
Anyways, "emo fashion" of 11-12 years would consist of backpacks, thick black rimmed glasses, real short hair. There, just as any asshole's attempt to get laid, was a lot of attempts on some persons's part to act all introspective, and poetic, and sensitive......from some kid that never even had a girlfriend? Give me a break.
There was also this false pretense of "extra intiligience"...'more intiligience than your average punk'. So what did you see? Everyone carrying around J.D. Salinger books....because the only shit they read was in school.
As far as music goes? Promise Ring was the big 'emo' band. They never wanted to be described as such, but everyone else called themselves an 'emo' band and ripped them off. Also, mere pop rock outfits like Sunny Day Real Estate, and Weezer started getting this emo treatment. Huh?
Well, back to Promise Ring. This was the great "higher inteligience" of punk rock. What? Simpleton pop music played by people who had never studied music. That's it boys and girls. That's it.
Your modern 'screamo'? Simple as fuck chorus/verse/bridge homogenized pop music with a dude screaming over it. Wow. I'm really impressed. True rebels.
Dude, whatever. So now all the kids have their hair cut like a 60's go go dancer, yet styled like
a dude from the 80's glam/rock/pop band, Poison.

There are millions of teenagers around the planet. Simultaneously, they are all trying to find out what makes them an individual. Going out of your way to buy certain clothes and obtain certain haircuts is what you do if you want to be part of a group. And when people want to find out, not, who you are, but who you want them to perceive you as, all they have to do is look at you and say "Ah, they are pointing out that they have the same ideals and beliefs as everyone else who looks like them".

So, I don't know, you tell me, at age, I don't know, 16, are you ready for that kind of commitment? And further so, what are these rock solid beliefs that your haircut stands for?
So, when you see someone walking around with a supercuts haircut, a button down shirt from kohls, and a pair of really old jeans that still have managed to not fade, or get holes in them (ironic, huh?), it's probably a dumb idea to think of them as "the normals". They are people, who probably have more insight on their individual ideals than the dude that went out and bought a misfits shirt, a giant GBH patch to stich into the back of his jacket, and a studded bracelit (and a TSOL hoodie for those cold nights) the second he met a few new people who all happened to have done the same thing the week before.

But ive looked Emo since way before it became a trend. when every1 thought i was just an outcast. like when the coolest thing to do was play football. so now that every1 is going to try and look emo it pisses me off. All you pre-judging people need to really shut up. Everyone is aloud to wear what they want and look how they want to. Because you know why..? Its a free country honey. Live with it. The world is not meant to be normal and its not meant to be sane. People can be what they want and how they want. If you want to be lil fuck tards and pre-judge people on how they look. Go right ahead. Your missing out on some nice people. Just because people might not look "normal" doesn't make them a bad person or less "intellagent" then you. Not all emo people are the same anyways. Just leave how people are and stop nagging on us for how we look. Because to tell you the truth, everyone in groups look funny. Everyone has there tastes.
