Some People Are Morons

Posted by: Brink | Monday, April 25, 2005

The world is getting to the point where skateboarding, moto-x, BMX, surfing and snowboarding are actually safer and more controlled than some of the riff raff that people are trying.

The Crazy Photo Contest is Over!

Posted by: Brink | Friday, April 22, 2005

The Crazy Photo contest is finally over! We have spent the last few weeks showing you a small sample of what's been coming in. However, we need some time to sift through hundreds of photos and pick the winners.

So you can stop sending photos in now and stay tuned for the results! In the meantime, check out this etnies art from the kids at Foothill Elementary School. They have etnies love!

etnies' New Ads! Do You Love 'em or Hate 'em? Tell Us!

Posted by: Cropley | Tuesday, April 19, 2005

We at etnies decided to try something a little different and run some ads that celebrate how good we have it as skateboarders, surfers, dirt bikers, snowboarders and BMXers, while poking a little lighthearted fun at people who have chosen a more traditional path in life.

What other company would give you the chance to tell those responsible for the ads in your favorite magazines what you actually think? Not many. Now take a look at etnies' new "I Wish" ads and let us know if you think they suck ass or kick ass.

What's the Snow Crew Up To?

Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, April 12, 2005
eddie
Team Manager Eddie Lee slashin' and burnin' Leanne Pelosi! Rahhhhhh!

Spring Madness! Get your speed wax and iron ready cause you're going to need it. Here's a quick update on what the ThirtyTwo/etnies team riders are up to:

John Jackson managed to empty out his piggy bank to go on a two week heli trip to Canada with the Standard Film crew. They'll be getting the goods all week trying to milk the powder shots before the snow turns into slush. Reports have been coming in positive that Canada is finally getting some snow. Wicked-eh? Jackson will be heading back from Canada later this week to join the ThirtyTwo/etnies team at the June Mountain team photo shoot scheduled for April 16-20.

jackson
Here's some vintage Jackson for you.

Markku Koski made it back into the States after attending a few contests in Scandinavia—most recently the Arctic Challenge. He's ready to slaughter it and get back into film mode. He'll be joining some of his other team mates for the TransWorld Team Challenge this week at Aspen, CO. Shortly after the Team Challenge Markku along with Am riders Stian Solberg and Freddie Austbo will be heading to June Mountain to meet up with the rest of the ThirtyTwo crew.

markku
Markku probably wouldn't be stoked on this photo.

A big shout out goes out to Birthday boy Tyler Lepore! Happy Birthday Ty! You better not be hiding out again this year. Ty's notorious for disappearing on his birthday for some odd reason. Hopefully he's having fun doing what he does best, whatever that means. Anyways, Tyler will be attending the Team Challenge this week with the rest of his comrades at Capita Snowboards, maybe he'll get another cover shot?

Benji Ritchie is up in Alaska with the White Out crew getting the last bit of Powder before it turns into Hot Pow. He'll be trying to wrap up his powder shots this week and then plans to head to Whistler hoping to get some more backcountry shots before it's time for park kickers.

areafflyer
Corey's artsy fartsy stuff!

B-team rider Corey Smith just showcased some of his art work at the Costa Mesa Active in the O.C this past weekend. The artist/snow slasher was seen at the opening and then bounced the next day to get back to shredding in Tahoe since they just received a few more flurries. Corey plans to head to Aspen for the Team Challenge and then he'll be joining the rest of the ThirtyTwo crew in June to get his jib on.

Wille Yli-Luoma finally got settled in to his new apartment in Portland, Oregon. After several months of negotiating he finally got the keys to his own studio loft in downtown Portland. Wille's excited to be in the states more often so he can concentrate on filming and be more involved with his sponsors. He felt Portland was a good middle ground for all of his travels as well as access to the backcountry. He's got his truck, snowmobile and electronic gadgets to keep him going for the next year or two. Good work Wille! Look out for more details on a Wille session at High Cascade Snowboard Camp this summer.

Later this week the ThirtyTwo/etnies crew will be heading up to Mammoth/June Mountain to get ready for the team photo shoot at June Mountain. This will be an exclusive photo shoot for the team. The unbound snow park crew will be cutting the pipe at June mountain as well as building a few jumps.

Upcoming events:

April 12-14: TransWorld Team Challenge-Aspen, CO
April 16th: Nikita Chikita Showdown-Northstar At Tahoe, CA
April 16-20: ThirtyTwo/etnies photo shoot-Mammoth/June Mountain, CA

Have fun slashing..

Attention February Newsletter Contest Winners! Where Are You?

Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, April 6, 2005

We contacted five of you etnies newsletter subscribers last month because you were picked to win free etnies and only one winner wrote back! Thomas (we don't print last names) from Colbert, Washington. Congrats, Thomas! Tom likes to ride motocross, in case anyone wanted to know. And he's cool because he's an etnies newsletter subscriber!

So basically, all this nonsense means that we are picking four more winners this week. Keep your fingers crossed and you might get a call or email from us offering you a free pair of etnies soon! There's also no reason you should't be entering the Crazy Photo Contest to be trying to win free etnies as well.

Crazy Photo Contest Extended! Stop Sucking!

Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, April 5, 2005
trials rider
Yea man, do an endo onto some girl's crotch!
bmxboobs
Yea yea, this chick likes BMX! Breasts and Bikes! That's a good name for a website.

People! Listen! There's not much time left. Don't you want free shoes and fame? After the last photo posting on here, it looked like people were finally getting the hang of this and we got some submissions that actually made us giggle. But now y'all are back to the usual slackin' off. You half asses!

There's like 12 of you, out of hundreds, who actually obeyed the rules. Which means that three out of those five will win shoes. What kinda crap is that?

I want to be able to give you free shoes and show your photo skills to the entire world. Don't you realize the power of etnies.com? 400 kids called town hall freaking out last week when I pranked their asses for April Fool's Day. That's at least 400 people that will see your work!

We love laughing 'till we cry, but not laughing at you. We want to laugh with you 'cuz your submission is so damn funny! Where's the comedy? Where's the inspiration and creativity? Where's the desire to win free etnies? Stop sucking and get photivated! So get this: In attempts to be fun and fair and get your brains in gear, we are extending the contest until mid-April. This gives you nearly tow more weeks to impress the hell out of us one last time. Do it, or we'll never extend a contest again.

thong
Is this a walk home from school on the "average" day? Maybe I am too old or something, but do you kids usually wear your jock straps outside of school?

The final day for submissions is now Sunday, April 17. So when I get back in the office on Monday, I better be cracking up at what I see or else I might just let nobody win. Muahahhahahahahahah!

Here's a few hints:

  • The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
  • Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming. We're thankful, but just make sure they have etnies on, otherwise we're just gonna forward the photo all over the office and then toss it.
  • If the etnies in the photo arent visible or can be proven to be etnies, we can't allow you to win.
  • No one said you can't use Photoshop. Wink wink.
  • Smaller-sized files would load faster and help me get home from the office before midnight.
  • Don't copy what you have already seen us post here. If we've posted it, it has already been done. Be original or you suck.

hitler
Um...weird. For the record, etnies never sponsored a Hitler. We prefer non-racists team riders.
moto photoshop
This is just the absolute worst of the Photoshop attempts.
tuff
Woah, easy there tough guy. You can't be that rough if you hang a pink Bam Margera poster in your room anyway.
pumpkin dog
Kinda cute, but no etnies shoes. LOSER! Although the pumpkin carving skills are second-to none.
blowtorch ass
This is just downright outrageous!
snake in the pants
Dude, this is getting out of hand! You put a snake in your pants? I think you meant to submit to some "other" type of site.
hot chick
Yet another hot chick with her body painted. If you can set me up me to be the body painter on her next photo shoot, you'll automatically win the contest.
Checkout those thugs! Their ghetto gowns are in full effect! Yo yo G-Unit in the hizzy my nizzle fo shizzle!

Arctic Challenge Report

The Arctic Challenge
March 29-April 6, 2005
Tromso, Finnsnes and Stamsund, Norway

The Arctic Challenge currently going on up in Norway is definitely not being blessed by the weather gods. The Halfpipe competition slated for last Thursday, March 31 got cancelled due to rain! The next day, Friday, April 1 was supposed to host the Quarterpipe competition in Tromso, but the weather still sucked, and it was time for some really good wax! No big action on that day, only a warm-up session.

On Sunday, April 3, the actual Quarterpipe contest got postponed to 3:00 p.m. due to rain. Frederick Austbö was on fire! He did backside 540s four meters above the coping and backside airs up to six meters high! He ended up in 9th place. Up and coming Norwegian kid Julian Karlsen won Best Rookie, and finished 11th place!

Monday, April 4 was Jump Session Day in Finnsnes. The name seemed to give the Finnish guys some extra power! The Finnish squad, including Markku Koski, Antti Autti and Risto Mattila, killed the jump session, and earned the special award for some rapid-fire action. The Euros riding included Frederick Austbö, Chris Sörman, Andreas Igre-Wiig, Elias Elhardt and more. Markku rode great and, fortunately, his shoulder didn't pop out again! Congrats, Markku!

Jump Session Results:
1. Antti Autti
2. Markku Koski
3. Risto Mattila

The Slopestyle contest, which should have happened today, got postponed due to heavy wind and rain, again! We'll see what happens! Stay tuned to this channel...

So Much Is Going On...

benji
Yes, this is large

Alright all you snow bunnies, here's a brief update of what the ThirtyTwo/etnies snow shredders have been up to...

The Empire Shakedown (March 19, Montreal, QC Canada) might as well been called "The Claim Down." Before dropping in to the course, the riders had to claim what trick he was going to stomp. That's right "Claim."

ledge
Waxy

The Mega Gnarly kicker was just a meager 20-foot Woo-tang booter measuring about 50 feet long, right into to a flat landing, ouch! Makes my back and knees ache just saying it. Anyways, the rail course was built to follow the gargantuan kicker. It was at the bottom of Mt. Saint Sauveur, quite impressive since they tried to provide a little bit of street style into it. The rail course was built on an 18-set staircase with three obstacles.

On the left, built out of concrete, a down flat down ledge. Yes, the ledge was made of concrete blocks with wax melted on top... Kinda crazy! In the middle was a nice 30-foot flatbar metal handrail, oh and by the way, after the qualifying round a few local skaters decided to put on a little rail session just to show some of the snowboarders how it's really done. Yeah, no shame here, we all know skaters can be crazy. Anyways, on the far right was a nice flat ledge with marble top to a 10-foot drop. In the end, everyone was hyped. The weather was perfect and the riding was amazing.

rail
Handrail craze!

Benji Ritchie, Tyler Lepore and Kevin Sansalone represented with style and grace. Stand-out performances were from Canadian ripper and ThirtyTwo representer Matt Dano for 1st place and Morgan Parker (also representing ThirtyTwo) for 3rd place. Matt pulled off a backside 900 to a nice front board on the marble ledge "Claiming it." Or was it a switch nine? Either way it was dope!

Congratulations Matt and Morgan! And thanks to everybody for representing ThirtyTwo and etnies. This was a great event to experience. The Canadians pulled it off again with amazing support. Big shout out's go out to Garret Louie at Timebomb,Dave Birnie, Matieu, Alex, Dan, Mike D, the riders and the rest of the Timebomb crew! Thanks again guys for all your continued support. Looking forward to next years extravaganza!

Custom noisemakers!

Onto the rest of the team...

Wille Yli-Luoma will be in Japan from March 29-April 5 getting his fill of sushi and sake bombs. He'll be on a week-long mission to throw down at the Slopestyle event along with sharing some fun stories and plenty of pictures with fellow Japanese fans. He'll most likely purchase a handful of pellet guns and electronics with Japanese instructions but what else do you buy when you're browsing through Akihabara?

John Jackson is getting ready to venture to the Canadian Rockies. Yes, he'll be on the never-ending powder quest, riding in helicopters with Standard films to jump and frolic along some cliff band in Northern Canada.

banners
See those people trying to steal our banners? Thats cuz our shit is tight.

Benji Ritichie was talking about going to Alaska because he was so tired of waiting for the snow in Whistler. He's trying to gather as many resources to head north where he'll be filming with the Whiteout crew. Good luck Benji, we'll see you in Mammoth in a couple of weeks.

Markku Koski will be competing at the Arctic Challenge this weekend. He'll be representing with the rest of the TTR (Ticket To Ride) crew in Norway. He's planning on heading back to the States right after the contest to start filming with Standard films and attend the ThirtyTwo team photo shoot in June Mountain (April 15-22).
