The Photo Entries Are Getting a Little Better...
Posted by: Brink | Thursday, March 24, 2005
- Gay humor is so hip nowadays, however, we can't make out what shoes these fellas are wearing, so they lose.

- Have you ever seen a photo this hot? The best effort (that didn't obey the rules) so far.
People! Listen! There's not much time left. Don't you want free shoes and fame? After the last photo posting on here, it looked like people were finally getting the hang of this and we got some submissions that actually made us giggle. But now y'all are back to the usual slackin' off. You half asses!
There's like five of you, out of hundreds, who actually obeyed the rules. Which means that three out of those five will win shoes. What kinda crap is that? I want to be able to give you an A+, not a big fat F.
Do you know how painful it is to just throw all your lame submissions in the trash? Where's the comedy? Where's the inspiration and creativity? Where's the desire to win free etnies? Stop sucking and get photivated!
Here's a few hints:
- The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
- Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming. We're thankful, but just make sure they have etnies on, otherwise we're just gonna forward the photo all over the office and then toss it. - If the etnies in the photo arent visible or can be proven to be etnies, we can't allow you to win.
- No one said you can't use Photoshop. Wink wink.
- Smaller-sized files would load faster and help me get home from the office before midnight.

- YES! Chilling with Ghandi while wearing etnies. Right on!

- Dude! What the hell is this?

- Just flat-out brilliant! Llamas mating while wearing etnies! Could be in the running for winning. But that doesn't mean to go and copy it now. Be original.

- Oh look how artistic and lovely this photo is! Poor lonely etnies shoe floating down the river of solitude. I think it says a lot about the human condition. No matter how "colorful" we really are, we all just end up isolated at some point. Sigh.

- Sickos! That dog is bummed.

- See that etnies tent in the background? Well, if you are looking at that, you have problems.
The Latest, Hottest Snow Happenings!

- Large.
Wow! What a weekend! The girls (Janna Meyen and Leanne Pelosi) took home some cash, a car, first at the rail jam, first and second in Slope style at the US Open.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the Scandinavians battled it out in front of 16,000 spectators last weekend in Falun, Sweden and the Finnish came out victorious!

- Got balls?
The gigantic course even took riders by surprise. The "oooh’s" and "ahhh’s" that echoed through out the stadium didn’t justify how enormous this course was--not to mention the riding level.
Riders dropped like flies with either with sprained ankles or broken wrists. It was quite impressive to see 12 nations all over the globe travel so far to a small town in Sweden to throw down and take snowboarding to another level. The weather couldn’t be more suitable for the level of riding that was going down (a nice -5 degrees Celsius). Markku Koski, captain for the Finnish team, dominated as they all rode with style and confidence. The course was built in a ski jump stadium utilizing the landing of the ski jump as the approach to the enormous battlefield.

- Viva la Finland!
It consisted of a monster-size table top measuring over 100 feet from take off to landing with a nice size hip (backside for goofy footers). Opposite the hip, the tabletop was also utilized as a quarterpipe Immediately after the tabletop a variety of jib lines were offered.
After a long day of flat landings and compressed spins, the Finnish team dominated the course taking home the fifty-pound trophy, key’s to Falun, custom surfboards and bragging rights. Hampus Mossesson represented all day long, awarding him the Rider of the Battle award for the second year in a row, 15.000 Swedish Kroner and a huge box of Snickers. Congratulations guys for ruling and representing!

- Winners!

A Few Photo Contest Hints For You Numbskulls...
Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, March 15, 2005
- Getting warmer...this is actually pretty funny, and odd at the same time. This bird's outfit isn't much different from what some pro skateboarders wear nowadays.
Ok kiddies, we at etnies are stoked at all the photo submissions we are getting for this month's Crazy Photo shoe giveaway.
However, for every interesting one that meets the requirements of the contest, we have about 10 that completely ignore every rule.
Here's a few hints:
- The photo needs to have a pair of etnies in it. DUH! At least get an etnies logo in there somehow and show us you're trying.
- Don't steal a photo off of the internet and send it to us. We aren't that stupid.
- The pictures of hot chicks are great, keep 'em coming.
So get crazy, get creative, have fun and keep em coming. Hopefully you can learn what not to do from the sample submissions included here, all of which showed up here in the last few days:

- Ok, this photo is ridiculously stupid and great. It might even be trying to make some sort of artistic "statement." However, the self-proclaimed "loser" forgot to show his etnies.

- This photo is brilliant, but once again, no etnies, no winner.

- Isn't this photo beautiful and serene? Kinda make you want to go mediate right? Who gives a crap?! There's no shoes in it.

- Possibly on the right track. Notice the etnies shoe? The chick might even be kinda cute, but we cant see her face and she's wearing far too many clothes.
Eddie Lee Impersonates Janna!
Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, March 15, 2005etniesgirl and ThirtyTwo pro, Janna Meyen won the Women's Slopestyle Winter Gravity Games gold a few weeks ago. The problem is, Janna is slightly bashful. On her behalf, etnies snow team manager, Eddie Lee, became a woman and stood on a tree stump for a few moments. Now that's a team manager! Thanks Eddie!

- Jackson sizing up the road gap.
Greetings fellow shredders…
The winter season is creeping to an end and spring is just around the corner. A lot has gone down for the ThirtyTwo and etnies team riders. Some are on the inevitable injured list, while others are laughing all the way to the bank with their winnings from various contests.

- Binding drama!
Wille Yli-Luoma made it back to the States hassle-free from customs. He’s excited to move into his new apartment in downtown Portland where he’ll be for the next year or so. He’s on his way up to Tahoe to pick up his snowmobile and then drive back to Portland. He’ll be concentrating on filming with Mack Dawg and Volcom for the next several weeks and plans to attend a few promotional trips with his sponsors and maybe even head to Japan?
Markku Koski flew home to get his shoulder checked out. Unfortunately, he tore the ligaments, which will take a few weeks to heal. He said he’d go through some physical therapy for now and wait until the season is over to go under the knife. Markku’s up in spirits and will continue to ride. In fact, he’ll be attending the X-box Jam in Europe this week along with international riders Hampus Mossesson, Aleksi Vanninen, Joni Makinen and Danny Wheeler.
John Jackson is on the inevitable injured list for the next couple of weeks, unfortunately. He recently got his knee checked out and from the looks of it; he’ll be taking it easy for the next couple of weeks. Hang in there John, we got your back.

- Benji and friends.
Tyler Lepore just got back from a two-and-a-half-week binge of eating soba noodles and soaking up the Japanese culture. Tyler-san said he had a blast in Tokyo and got some good powder in the North Island of Hokkaido filming for the Oakley project (title still unknown). He’ll be hanging in Vancouver for the next couple of days catching up on some of his bills and then heading out to keep filming and shooting photos. Tyler will be making his way to Quebec to compete in the third annual Empire Shakedown, scheduled for March 26, 2005.
Benji Ritchie drove out to Tahoe right after the ThirtyTwo boot camp to film with the White Out crew in the backcountry. He’s been waking up at the crack of dawn to get the goods. Benji will also make his way back to Whistler sometime later this week and then head back to his hometown to compete in the Shakedown.

- Chad's about to drop in and beat everyone's ass.
B team rider Eric Jackson has been filming non-stop with Standard Films in the backcountry of Tahoe. Check out some of the photos from his last venture in the backcountry, especially the one where E-Jack literally gets eject-ed out of both of his bindings jumping a 50-foot road gap. Luckily he didn’t get hurt but a lot of laughter was shared after that moment. He’ll continue to film and shoot photos everyday with Standard films until the US Open from March 17-20.
ThirtyTwo and etnies flow rider Chad Otterstrom slaughtered the Gravity Games at Copper Mountain. Chad was on point all day long and during the 2-hour jam session. His runs were consistent and fluid, stomping tricks like a backside 900 to cab 7’s, backside 7, frontside 5, huge Ollie to lipslide over the battleship rail, 180 on to 180 out of the ledge and to finish it off cab boardslide to 270 out. He scored a 92.0, which placed him in the “Money” spot the entire day. Immediately after the slopestyle event, Chad brought out his bag of tricks at the Rail Jam in Frisco that night. He stomped a variety of tricks on both rails rewarding him yet another win not to mention a bonus round for best trick ($1,000). Chad’s 10-hour workday awarded him a nice $26,000. That’s $2,600 an hour. Not bad for having fun and enjoying what he loves to do. Congratulations Chad! We may just have to put you back on the team.

- Chad won all day long.
Lot’s more to come so keep checking back and here’s a little bit of what else is going on for the rest of the month. See you in the spring:
March 12th Queen of the Mountain Mountain High
March 15th – 19th US Open Stratton Mountain, VT
March 16th – 19th Then Battle Faulan, Sweden
